NICK HELME - ABOUT

Nick has always had a deep affinity for photography ever since receiving his first camera.

His artistic eye for detail, colour, composition and understanding of the shot makes for an irresistible combination! Photography requires a unique understanding not only in the subject matter (ie. in what will probably happen next), but also the understanding of how light plays on the subject and what is required to achieve the desired effect, the angle of approach and the patience and desire to achieve ‘that shot’.

It is not just being in the right place at the right time (and with a camera) - but it all helps. Photography is a bit like sport in that there is always the goal in a constant need to try and improve, to achieve perfection!

An impossible task which only goads one to try harder!

About us pic

A glacier in the Arctic...

My visit to Antarctica was a most incredible trip which I took just over a year ago. I went to The Falklands, South Georgia and the Antarctic Peninsula - one could say ‘the last great wilderness’ and certainly the storms of the Southern Ocean are an awe-inspiring experience.

This further enhanced my respect for mother nature and also for Ernest Shackleton's incredible journey to save his comrades and whose route we were following in reverse. The wildlife, the whales, the albatrosses, the sea birds and the infinite variety of penguins, all completely without fear of man, showing almost a disdain for his appearance!

It also drove home the fact that all these animals live at sea and only return
to land to breed !
